I thought that the hp on a stock 307 was around 230 but I looked at the engine codes and it said 130 . This is with a 2 barrel and a automatic powerglide tranny. What is the correct hp? Is there any way to get this stock 307 to put out a lot of hp?

My wife's '70 Malibu with a 307, bought new by her in 1970, was rated at 200 HP. Not alot of torque either, compared to mine with the 350, 250HP bought at the same time. Save your coins and build up a 350.

The advertised HP for the 307 from 68 thru 71 is 200, as Jerry said. In 72 it dropped to 130, and then in 73 to 115. In and after 72 the HP ratings were net figures (all acc. installed and operating).

The '68 - '71 307s were 200 gross. From '68 - '70 net horsepower varied from 150 net with a.i.r. or 157 without (including '70 with TCS). It went to 140 net in '71 & 130 in '72. They managed to strangle it down to 115 for '73, as mentioned in the previous posts.

You could easily get 230 gross out of it with duals and a 4 barrel (and a tune up). The 307 isn't a great performance engine (unless you put a turbocharger on it. Hey...)
