I'm looking at a carb on e-bay, would greatly appreciate some help. I have a 66 SS, 325 hp flavor with PG. The carb in question is a Holley, list # 3139-1 with p/n of 3874898 - ER, date coded 502. Is this the "right" carb for this motor? I will be rebuilding the engine, going for around 370 HP or so, don't want to go too radical. Would this be a good choice for the carb? So far all my numbers are matching except the carb, its a Quadrajet sitting on an adapter/spacer. I'm sure its not the orig carb, but can't find any numbers on it. I'm more interested in performance on the carb then #s for now.......

Brian:

the Holley with Number 3874898 is correct for 66 Chevelle SS 396/325 HP with manual Trans.

A Quadrajet is also correct for your car with 396/325 Hp and Powerglide., that would have Number 7026200 and 7036200 for powerglide and air (smog)

The Holley application for 396/325 with powerglide was was 3868864, 3883962

Now ya gotta decide if ya wanta play the numbers game http://www.chevelles.com/forum/smile.gif

Mike,

Should have known you would beat me to the answer. As I was reading the question I was pulling out my reference material that I pulled off the net a long time ago to document my 67 Holley carb from the Aces Web page http://chevelles.com/aces/vol1/aces_12a.htm and your reply just about sums it up http://www.chevelles.com/forum/smile.gif

Day late and an answer short http://www.chevelles.com/forum/biggrin.gif

Please note: I am not sure why that link above don't work but it is what is printed word for word on the bottom of the sheet I got right off the net

OK, after doing a search...I think I got it...it is all tied to this site now...chevelles .com ....the link used to be chevelle.net

Thanks for the info and the link. It looks like the spacer under the carb isn't right, I'm not sure. The intake # is 3886848 with GM2 under it. The only numbers I can see on the carb is on the throttle likage plate (B36579), the air plate/throttle plate (front 32747 rear 36021). Carb is REALY nasty, probably beyond use. I really thought it would be orig, car has 62K miles and has sat for past 14 years, but that spacer just looks wrong to me....... Thanks again for the info, may just go ahead and get the Holley, I know how to rebuild those. Made the mistake once long ago of taking apart a Q-Jet, never did get it back together again right!!
