: Aluminum Manifold Cleaning....

I made a mistake and tried to clean an older Edelbrock manifold with oven cleaner... it turned dark gray/black and looks like hell now for sure... Is there a way besides being bead blasted that I can dip this into or spray on to get it nice and new looking again? I'm willing to try anything since it's already messed up.

Harleigh, I suspect you might have actually "blued" it somewhat. So whatever you do, it will have to entail removing some surface I should think.

Think you're at the glass beading tank. Or get some sanding cones and start a-polishing!

It WOULD NOT be a crime to paint an aftermarket manifold in a coat of orange if your engine bay has a stock feel to it, or black if you want to use one of Smokey's tricks.

I use Mothers alum/mag wheel polish on mine, but its polished.

You could always send it to Jet Hot or some other coating place, but that might cost more than a new intake would. Just an idea.

Try some HD paint stripper. There's always the aluminum paint Eastwood sells, but bead blasted would look better IMO.

well
bead blast would make it look new. Usually 10-20 bucks but it looks good when done. http://www.chevelles.com/forum/smile.gif

Before painting my engine recently, I used a bit of paint brush cleaner (aka varsol?) and a fine wire brush, and a fair bit of elbow grease... careful where you get this stuff though. Let us know what does work.

Good thing it wasn't magnesium. Some acidic reactions between acids and metals are spectacular. Fire and stuff. Most oven cleaners are pretty foul stuff. Beads are the best way.
