I have been strugling with adding power steering to my '67 SS for about a year now and I finally have all the correct brackets. After mounting the pump below the alternator I found that the pump is WAY forward of the alternator and does not align with the belts. Does the original two piece pump require the use of a long water pump? I'd hate to lose the clutch fan and have to buy another alternator.
Thanks
Chuck
Assuming you are referring to the BBC set up the pump does not run on the same belt as the alt. On my 68SS(same setup) I needed the add-on pulley to use the stock style pump. I ended up using the Billet specialties triple pulley because the O.P.G. Chrome pulleys did not work(they-waterpump/crank- were to big of a diameter so they hit each other). If you have a factory assembly manual you can see a drawing of the setup. I hope this helps and Good Luck.

I've got a late model, two-piece p/s pump in my 67. The engine is from a 69 and came with the long pump originally so that's what I worked around. I moved my alt to the passenger side to balance things out a bit. Although I did have to make the brackets for the alt, the p/s stuff I found in the trunk of a donor 67 that the 69 engine came in.
I've posted a couple of pics if it'd help any.

For a SBC you have to run the two piece lower pulley and the short water pump. I just finished this conversion on my 67. I'll have to look when I get home and I'll post my findings later.

Ok here's what I got. The water pump, alt and crank run the same belt. It uses the single groove pulley that butts right against the harmonic balancer and single groove pulley on the water pump. The PS pump runs on what's called the "ADD ON" pulley at the crank. It's actually a separate pulley and only drives the PS pump.
The pulley was very hard to find. I finally found one and then once I knew what it was. I found it in Ground Up they sell them for for $36.95 (#3874416). It spaces the pulley towards the front of the car about a half an inch and bolts up against the stock single groove crank pulley.
I have an extra and would sell it, but it's in storage while our new house is being built.
Then, I just went to Auto Zone and asked for the stock belts for a 67 327 car. No problem!
Let me know if you need more info.

Chuck B,
Several of the Corvette restoration places also have the pulley you need also a very compact bracket and Alt mount too.

Thanks Guys!
Some very good advise. I think I will go with the add on pulley. It appears to be correct for the spacing I see on my pump. Thanks again
