It depends on which plant, let us know. Also, if you have a build sheet, look at box 91 and let us know what it reads.

Baltimore switched to spring clip retainers in January. I've heard that other plants were later. I thought they had all changed by April, but I'm not positive about that. FWIW, my build sheet has 770 FJ in box 91, (Baltimore built, 4th week January), and it came with the spring clip type.

Ray,
If your car was built in Baltimore like mine then you would have the clip on style.Box 91 on my sheet reads 323 FJ

So is that to say that ALL 69 model chevelles and elcaminos used the bolt on caps?

My 70 was built in Atlanta and the 4th week of April (I think) and has 323FJ in box 91. I did not get the center caps with the car and was wondering if it had the bolt on or the clips?

Dean, wouldn't that depend on the build date? I think I've read previous posts where Mr70 has documented the switch in Baltimore to early/mid January. Are you out there Rick? We need you here!

Yes, that's my understanding of it at least. The clip-on was introduced during the 1970 model year. Different plants switched at different dates. That's why it's good to have historians who collect build sheets.

My car was built in Atlanta the 1st week of May. Has the spring clip caps.

Yes it would. He said his car was built in April of 70 so if it was built in Baltimore then it would have the clip on style.

Well it seems to me so far that the bolt on style were used on very early 70 chevelles.Based on what the info on the cars with buildsheets from other plants around the time mine was biult they all seem to have spring type.

It dont seem to me very many Flint built chevelles are around http://www.chevelles.com/forum/frown.gif

Hey Rick(Mr70) can you help??? http://www.chevelles.com/forum/smile.gif

LS6-M22,
Thanks for the reply.
There seems to be alot of gold 70 Chevelles here. My 70's factory color is gold w/black stripes and has the saddle trim bucket seat/console, M-21, a/c, 3.31 posi, AM-8track, and cowl induction.
Bill T SS70, your car was built a little after mine.

I hope to one day to get my 70 to look as good as y'alls do.
