I can get some center bolt heads for my 350 that'll give me some 60 - 70 more HP over the stock heads I have now for a real good price (free), except I dont know if I want to switch to center bolt...Plus I can't find nice VC's for them http://www.chevelles.com/forum/smile.gif...I think I'll wait till I find some other heads, what would you do?

Thanks,

If you are talking about 350 vortec heads (not the 305 heads) then you will find a big performance bump...
I also hate the look of the center bolt valve covers and can't believe nobody makes a decent looking set..
Granatelli makes a set of welded covers but I can't find a picture of them..
And then there is always the GMPP adaptors but they are pricey even from Jim Pace..
Also don't forget that you MUST use a vortec intake (also very limited choices) and self aligning rockers...

Edelbrock makes Victor Jr, RPM, RPM Airgap, and Performer manifolds for the Vortec heads. Also there are some cast aluminum valve covers avialable for not too much money, less than $100 pair.

centerbolt heads were used on 305s 350s, and the LT1. not just 305s and the vortec motors

My Dad has the 350HO Crate from Pace which has the Center bolt design. He hated them and decided to get the adaptors. Those things leaked no matter what we did so he decided to go with date coded 2.02's. Now he has the best of both worlds and it runs like a banshee.

We took the advice of some of the members on this site (Brainpower=Results) and used Permatex Black to glue the adapters to the heads, then glued a cork gasket to the valve covers. The valve covers are the MOON Aluminum Finned type, and it never leaked again.

Although the valve covers are tall, they may not work with out new Comp Cams "True Roller" setup (GMPP 330/350 Vortec Heads Setup). We'll know in a few days.

Hope this helps.
