Trying to figure out if there was ever a radio delete plate made for a 1970 SS Chevelle. I have a few SS dash carcasses that are nice and uncut, but the original one in the car has some widening around the radio and the towers are sliced off. Was considering a factory delete plate and doing the CD player-in-the-glove-box thing. I've never seen a factory delete plate for a '70--anyone know, or better yet, have one they want to part with?

Tony,

You betcha there was a delete plate for the 1970 Chevelles. They show it in the factory assembly manual. I don't have any pictures (I think--it might be buried in a computer or my basement http://www.chevelles.com/forum/wink.gif ). This brings up a good point too, Radios were OPTIONS not standards. If you didn't order a radio, you got a delete plate.

Yep, there sure was because, I have one that came with the 70 Elky. Sorry, but I think I will keep it.

I believe there is a difference in delete plates between the gauge package/Monte Carlo dash and regular sweeping speedometer. I may be wrong but make sure you find this out before spending your money. I have seen a couple on e-bay and they go for big dollars.

There were 3 different type Radio delete plates offered in 1970-72.Malibu(Sweep) Dash,Monte Carlo(wood grain)Dash, and Super Sport(round Gauge)Dash.1969 and earlier are different, obviously. These are getting costly and make sure you know the part# you need.I saw one advertised on E-bay as a 70 Super Sport, that was actually a Malibu sweep dash. They will not interchange.

Thanks Rick, I figured the SS/Malibu plates would be different. Jeez, I can't believe that there are too many of these things left in the country. May have to fabricate one myself out of grained ABS. Anyone have a pic of the SS radio delete?
