Please help, i am in the process of restoring a 72SS Big Block car with AC and need to know if it should have a heater control valve? Does any one know where it would be mounted?
i have looked in my service manual and assembly manual and i can not locate it.
Any info appreciated.

Thank you!

AFAIK, there is no heater control valve on an a/c car. I know for a fact there is none on a 66 with the Four Seasons system, it says so in the manual, and there is none in the car. The core is always hot and the air control doors in the ductwork are opened or closed to allow heat into the car. This is with or without the A/C running.

I had a 70 with air before my current non-air car, and it had a heater control valve. It mounted directly on the manifold in back near the firewall on a small block, probably similar on BB. I can't imagine a later model NOT having it.

My 69 Chevelle with AC has the valve mounted on the passenger side inner fender. Other cars of this time period have a 10-inch or so metal pipe coming straight up from the front of the intake (out of the coolant fitting), the valve attached to the pipe, and then the heater hose going from the valve to the heater core.

There should be NO heater valve on a '72. I have read that the valve went part way thru '71. The Assembly manual ('72) shows the hoses hooked to the pump and to the front of the intake manifold. And the vacuum routing shows no place for a heater valve. And, for a bonus, the service manual ('72) says that no valve is used.

Another vote for no valve on a 72. My el camino w/air was near original when I bought it and did not have a valve. If you look closely, there is no provision {vacumn or cable} to open/close the valve.
