Hey Guys, Does anyone know the correct color for 70-71 SS wheels? These are the 5 spoke mag appearing wheels with the narrow flat trim ring and the small center cap. Maybe somebody has the right color in a spray can. Thanks! Texx47@aol.com

I don't know the correct color but I think you are refering to the 71-72 wheel. The one like on later Z28's right?

Year One has the correct color paint. It's gray with a sand like texture finish. But I painted mine with a paint that I bought at Southwestern Classic in Arlington, Tx. It's the dark gray that's used on the background of the 69-70 SS wheel.

Those 71-72 rally wheels are the same as Z28 and ElCamino, seems like they were painted to match the body. Now the ones I had on my 67 Malibu were the grey sand color Randy describes, which will look great.

The paint code for the 5 spoke wheel in PPG is DDL32961. Its a lacquer and you may not find it in your area. I had to cross the state line to get some more paint to finish the wheels a few months back.

I used Details "SS Insert Gray". It looks a bit dark to me as I've seen lighter shades of gray but they say its correct. Spray can , about $6. I also top coated it with 2 coats of satin plyurethane ( yes the stuff made for wood). It provides a nice hard shell to keep those lug wrench dings to a minimum. But dont use more than 2/3 coats because too much and it will affect the color and give a green-ish tint.
Our sponsor < ground Up, has the paint.
I'm looking for a litgher shade ( in a can unfortuntely dont have air comp)and might try the Eastwoods product, but again, think the Details paint is close to original. Dark bluish-gray matte finish.
Nice rims BTW in term of offset. I measure 4.75" b/s on mine.
