Today I as just brain dead. A simple question, that I should know the answer to has been bothering me all weekend.
I have a '69 350hp SS-396 with 3.73 rearend, and M-21 tranny. I am trying to reset my initial timing. The timing should 4 deg Before TDC at 800 rpm. I have an Accel BEI distributor with adjustable vacuum advance canister. When I set the initial timing do I:
(a) disconnect the vacuum advance hose and plug it so the carb does not "leak"
(b) disconnect the vacuum advance hise and DO NOT plug it
(c) leave the damn hose alone

Sorry, for the simple question, but this weekend I seem to be completely brain dead.

Thanks

You may want to dab some white paint on your timing mark on the harmonic balancer so that you can see it when adjusting the timing. I've also marked it with a piece of soapstone. Disconnect the hose from the vacuum advance on the distributor. Plug the hose only. Then you can adjust your timing.
Hope this helps.
