Hey Guys,
I have a 750 double pumper and I rejeted it for more performance. The problem is that I can't seem to set the floats correctly. I have been to the Holley web site and read all about setting them, but it just isn't working. They say to set the floats to where the fuel is just below the sight screw. I have tried to set it at that but it will not go below it in rear bowl and the front bowl seems to adjust to that point but my car stalls if when I put it in reverse. the rpms slowly drop from 1000 to 500 and then it stalls. Otherwise the car runs fine when I am on the trottle. Need some help!
Thanks,
Daniel

If I read you correctly, you have the front set properly, but have the rear too high? Does it spill out? If it is too high in the rear, you will be spilling over and flooding. That may be why it stalls in gear. If you can not get the rear float down low enough, your needle/seat is leaking past in the rear bowl. Take it apart and clean/replace the needle/seat. Then try to readjust. If you did not have this stalling issue before you took it apart to rejet, you have to go back and look at "what was done last". Holley floats are pretty basic. You loosen the screw and adjust with the nut. Then tighten the screw again. What is your fuel pressure??

Remove the floot bowl again and adjust the tang on the float it self this is where the extra adjustment is then set leval so it just drips out.

I found with a vac sec carb you have to crack open the secondaries or the level won't reflect the adjustment you just made... I would think the mechanical might need the same so try crackin the throttle a couple times after you make an adjustment.

I hate the idea of gas spilling out and opted for a set of clear site plugs. You can leave them in or put the solid ones back in when all done...

Good point Dennis. Lowering the float setting on the rear won't show up until you get rid of soem of the gas in the bowl. I Forgot to mention that. Set it low, crack the secondaries a few times to get the fuel level down and then raise the float level up to where you want it.

Thanks for the advice! I will try some of these things, but as a last resort I have spoken the the local drag car building "guru", and he said he would help me set it up today.
Have a good one! http://www.chevelles.com/forum/smile.gif

You could also have a leaky needle valve allowing fuel to enter the bowl when it should be closed.

I had a problem like that and finally figured out I also had a fuel pump that was putting out too much pressure and overpowering the needle valves.
