I am trying to install power steering on my 66 ElCam with a 327. It has a short water pump and I am trying to use headers. Any suggestions on which setup will work best?

Para,

Do what I'm going to do. I ordered the PWR Steering brackets from Ground Up / SS396.com for the 67-68 Z-28 Camaro. This set up mounts to the front of the block and to the top front engine mount bolt. You then will need the Alternator mount from an early 70's to 81 Vette. It mounts to the left head and you have a choice of cast iron or aluminum here. You can get it thru Zipps Corvette parts and you'll be set. That way there will be nothing in the way of the headers or attached to them looking "rigged" with one of those cheesy looking angle steel brackets that don't stay in place.

Harleigh,
Sounds like you might have found a solution to a problem that I've been trying to figure out for years. (Not just on the Chevelle.)
Did you receive and mount all of the brackets? All of the pulleys line up correctly?
I don't neccessarily have to have that stock appearance, (after all, I mounted headers.) but like you said, I did try to make my way around the problem by fabricating an unsightly piece of angle iron.

Do you have part numbers on the brackets you mention?

Thanks,

The part number for the aluminum Corvette alternator bracket is 014015510. If you know someone in the parts department it should cost about $25.00. If you get the aluminum mount, it can be polished up real pretty.

Hope this gets posted in the "Tips & Fixes" thread. Then we can find it later.

I talked to harlieghguy via e-mail and found out that this solution does not address engines with heads that do not have mounting holes in them. Many of these brackets have to be bolted to the front of the heads to work. I'm looking at changing to a long water pump and a March Performance serpentine conversion kit. It's expensive but I know it will work
