I have a couple of questions that have been bugging me. First, would it have been possible to order the 3-spoke steering wheel on a Malibu in '70, I imagine you could. Secondly, I read somewhere that it was possible to order stripes on '72 Malibu's, I can't remember about '71's, anyone know if it was even possible to get stripes on a '70 Malibu? Thanks.

Yes you could get a 3-spoke steering wheel on a malibu as an option.
SS "band aid" hood and deck stripes were only possible on the SS chevelle for all 3 years. You could get pinstriping down the side as an option put on by the dealer. Not on the hood and deck.

I think in 1972 you could get the D88 hood and deck lid strips without the SS option. I recall a dealer here having a 1972 Chevelle, Red/White ragtop with white strips it was not a SS! Not in 70 or 71 though, allthough I am sure some added them to their cars.

Thanks elcamino, I knew you could get ss style stripes on 72's, wasn't sure about the others.

Rick -

Recall that 70 LS3 car that I posted about recently. It came with special order Monaco Orange paint and the band-aid stripes on a flat hood. So this was a non-SS, non-Malibu 70 Chevelle with those stripes.

Really........Thanks Rainer. I think I decided I'm going to make a Malibu 400 clone out of mine, and I want everything to be as correct as possible. I kinda wanted white stripes on fathom blue paint. It looks like I can do it too http://www.chevelles.com/forum/smile.gif

The "band-Aid" stripes were added by several dealerships, when requested. I know, my Dad had one. Steve
