Myles_Turner Oct 6th, 01, 12:56 PM Tried a few, but won't stick well enough.
Any suggestions?
TIA,

Narti Oct 6th, 01, 4:38 PM I went to Home Depot and bought some double sided tape, it's been holding up well for over four years and you can't tell the difference.

RC 70 Oct 6th, 01, 4:59 PM I tried the double sided tape and couldn't get it to stick well enough.
I used the glue that came with the purchase price of the pad. It worked well and even though it's only been about 4 months, I can't see it coming lose.
Bill T SS70 Oct 6th, 01, 6:01 PM I also had trouble keeping a new pad attached. Used the "special glue" that came with the pad, it came loose, ordered more glue, it came loose again. The pad was flat and I think it's memory kept pulling it loose.
I then ordered a new pad from Ground-Up because their pad is pre-formed to fit the bumper. Put it on with 3M's Black Super Weatherstrip Adhesive, part # 08008
Holding perfectly.

'70chevy Oct 6th, 01, 6:13 PM I have installed 2 of those flat pads, using the special glue, and they both have stuck very well. I brought the bumpers inside the house, and was very meticulous with the prep. The first pad even largely survived a rear end collision! Maybe better prep? I don't know. Just my .02

I'll try the tape first (least expensive), if not, right to 3M.

Doug Garland Oct 6th, 01, 7:31 PM The special glue that comes with the pad has a 3 day shelf life, meaning you have to order it when you are really ready to put the pad on, not order it, and wait 2-3 weeks. It looses it's "stick" after the 3 days, and probably is the reason some of the pads are coming off.

66 Beau Oct 6th, 01, 8:08 PM The only way I've had any success with gluing stuff is to really work at making sure both surfaces are clean. It's gotta be CLEAN.
Use soap and water, scrub vigorously, dry, then I use some rubbing alcohol as the final wipe. Let it dry completely and then apply the glue.
If there is any dirt or oily finish, the glues just won't stick.
There may be better solvents but I've had good luck with the rubbing alcohol. I worried about leaving an oily film with other solvents.

THORSS70 Oct 7th, 01, 8:35 AM I went through this same delimma not to long ago, and I went down to the local auto parts store and bought some "super weatherstrip adhesive" from 3M. I cleaned all dirt and loose debris off of both sides to be glued, and viola' it sticks. It has been solid for a couple of months and countless washings, you might want to try it.
