I have a '70 Elky and am looking to install tailpipes in hope to cut down on some interior noise. Anyway, where did the stock tailipes exit on a SS or dual exhaust Elky from '68-'72? Are the chrome tips the same as Chevelle SS's of the same years? I like the '70 Chevelle SS chrome tips, so I was just wondering.

Stock exhaust exit on the elkys exited behind the rear wheels-
The tubes are kind of angled back and downwards a little bit- I don't think the tips were the same (chevelle had those oval tips)
Personally i prefer the straight out to the side behind the wheels (what i have) or straight back out under the bumper...

The previous post is correct in stating that the pipes angled out immediately behind the rear wheels. I have a picture of a '71 rolling of the assembly line I could e-mail to you. It also shows a unique heat sheild that you are certain to not see anywhere else. Something I have NEVER seen since these were new are the heat sheilds that were on the '70 - '72 models (Never seen on an SS, it was not on dual exhaust). They did nothing for efficiency since they kind of squared off the outlet then welded a larger diameter pipe around it at the end, then angle-cut the lower half. It's kind of hard to describe. They also used them on 1970 full-size wagons. I haven't seen these tips in about 28 years.
