i might be purchasing a 70 chevelle. its a 454 SS, no motor or trans. im not sure if it is a real SS or not since the owner doesnt have a build sheet. i wont be able to look at the car till next weekend since its out of state. he told me about the car and it has ps/pdb/ac/331 12 bolt posi/cowl induction. he said it had the 360hp 454 which would explain the a/c. it has the round pod dash but no tach, it could still be an SS though since the tach was just an option. i was hoping anyone could tell me what to look for to see if it was a big block car let alone an SS before i go to look at it. i already checked the SS id page someone told me about so any other help would be greatly appreciated.

boxed control arms too, don't forget, usually not installed when people clone cars. so if they are there, i'ts likely it is, and the "pot o gold" build sheet could be still in the car somewhere http://www.chevelles.com/forum/smile.gif

Don't forget to look at the top of the fenders to see if molding was ever installed, don't forget lower molding too.

on these cars, the only true way to determine an SS is the build sheet or protect-o-plate. All the above are good indicators, But you can also look at the fuel line, if its a 3/8" it tells you it was a big block car (still doesen't mean its a SS), also the upper and lower rear end trailing arms should have the brace installed where they attach to the frame (easily installed to clone a big block).
