: Moving to Sacramento area in November~
harleighguy Aug 23rd, 01, 3:00 PM I'm retiring for the Army in November and will be looking for where all the Chevelle nuts hang out in the Sacramento area. Anyone out there??? I used to live in Rancho Cordova 20 years ago and still know my way around town...

David Bates Aug 23rd, 01, 3:25 PM I retired from the USAF at McClellan AFB in Sacramento almost thirteen years ago. Sorry I left (except for the energy crunch). Good luck and a safe and long retirement!

Wooderson Aug 24th, 01, 10:24 PM The one nice thing about California is, is that there are swap meets every weekend it seems.
onovakind67 Aug 25th, 01, 5:38 AM I live about 40 miles west of Sacto and we are never at a loss for somewhere to go or something to do. Swap meets, cruise nights, car shows, Hot August Nights, Cool April Nights, racing year-round at Sac Raceway. This weekend is a big Good Guys show in Pleasanton, next weekend is the Nova mini-nats in Concord, etc. Here's a link to Drive! Magazine and their event listings page. They have a list of car shows and swap meets from all across the country. Click on 'Calendar of Events' and then click on the map in your area of the country.

Steve R Aug 25th, 01, 9:42 PM Sacramento raceway may not be around much longer, I have been hearing rumors that it may be closing after next season. Not too sure what to think since stories like that have been going around since the late 80's, but some day in the not too distant future the rumors will likely come true.

Mike Feudo Aug 26th, 01, 4:20 AM onovakind67 I see you have a 700R4 in you Nova. How much trouble was it to put in? I will be at the Mini Nats but my car won't don't belong to NNN anymore.

I don't belong to NNN or GSN either, I just go to the shows. My car will be in the parking lot, red 67 with black interior.
The 700R4 was easy to put in:
1. Move the tranny crossmember back 2" by cutting and welding a spacer in it. You can also buy the crossmembers premade from Chevy2Only.
2. Get a 3" shorter driveshaft. One from a Vega works perfectly if you have the original rear end with the small yoke. 2nd Gen Camaros also have the right length driveshaft but the rear u-joint is larger. I have a 9" Ford rear so the Camaro driveshaft fits perfectly with the large Ford yoke.
3. I kept the column shifter in my car and adapted a cable mechanism to operate the tranny. When my PRNDL is in L, that's 3rd gear on the tranny.
4. I designed my own lockup circuitry so I can lock the converter in any gear. I also use a latching relay so the converter will not inadvertently be locked when you let off the brakes.
5. You may have to customize the dipstick to clear the firewall and shorten the tube to fit the small Nova engine compartment. I use a TH350 dipstick in a shortened 700R4 dipstick tube.
6. The TV cable must be hooked up correctly. Since I use Q-jet carbs, I use a stock Chevy cable and brackets.
