A guy made a more than reasonable offer for my 70 chevelle convertable, at a local cruise night, even though it was not for sale. Eventually, he told me the reason he was interested in the car. He said that the B in my vin# stood for baltimore and that they only made big block cars in that factory.
I explained to him that I installed the 396, added the guage cluster, bucket seats, console, sway bar, and power disk brakes. It also has malibu trim running along the top of the fenders.

He didn't want to hear it and told me that malibus came with big blocks - not just super sports. I did not buy my car from the original owner but my guess it had a 307 from the factory. Is he off his rocker?

There is no build sheet due to the velour seat covers when I bought it.

You could order a LS-3 (402) in a Malibu. As for Baltimore only building BB cars, I don't know that one.

Here's some reading.....

If he offered you so much money that you are willing to sell it and you have informed him it was not a big block car then don't worry about it. Just make sure you state in the reciept that the car is a factory small block. Good luck.

I don't want to sell the car. He offered me $10,000. The car is nice but not perfect. It sounded wierd to me too.

They built all the Chevelle models at Baltimore, not just big block cars. They built El Caminos and Monte Carlos too. All plants builts SS396's and 454's, the SS was just another option and was a Malibu to start with. Where the car got built was primarily determined by the destination dealer and plants work schedule.

No all type engine chevelles were built at Baltimore. $10,000 doesn't sound that high for a convertible SS clone. II would think $15,000 at least.

Bob Tiley,
My thoughts exactly!
Maybe that's why he offered $10,000??? If I was buying a car I would probably start with a low bid also, never let them know your bottem line.

monkeyboy,
Next time tell 'em you won't even consider it unless the price was around $20,000 or a price you can live with in the event he bites on your price http://www.chevelles.com/forum/biggrin.gif http://www.chevelles.com/forum/biggrin.gif http://www.chevelles.com/forum/biggrin.gif
