: how fast is my odometer counting?

I know I should probably just take it out of the freeway and look at mile markers to find out, but I was wondering if anyone knows a easy way to find out close to exactly how fast it's counting.

Anyway... the car came factory with a 305, turbo 350 and 2.73? posi. The rear is now 4.11 and it still has the turbo 350. Any ideas on how fast the odometer is counting?

Everything else being unchanged, I would say that for every mile you are going, you odometer is ticking off 1.5 miles. 4.11/2.73 = 1.5055

That's what I was thinking.

I did that exact same swap and mine was reading about 90mph at about 60mph so 1.5 is about right.

Just change your speedo gears. I did mine and it only took me about 40 minutes including removal and re-install of the drive shaft. Now it reads correctly and I like it a lot better than guessing.

I was planning on that, but I'm really thinking about selling the El Camino. I need something more practical for the street. I'm looking for a 87 Grand National that's stock with low miles. Anyone wanna trade their GN for a 85 El Camino that'll do mid 12's? http://www.chevelles.com/forum/wink.gif

Haha for the 10 bucks it will cost you for speedo gears you'll probably have a lot easier time selling it if the speedo reads correctly http://www.chevelles.com/forum/smile.gif
