: TRUNK LOCK CYLINDER RETAINER
DZAUTO Sep 19th, 01, 10:20 AM Does anyone have the trunk lock cylinder RETAINER, which pushes over the cylinder from INSIDE the trunk to hold the lock cyl in place (for 68-72)? Also, the little clip which is held in place with 1 screw? I could sure use one for my son's car. (or does anyone know if it is available from Chev parts, I can't find it in the parts book)

Sid Coleman Sep 19th, 01, 10:52 AM Hey Tom-The only part I'm aware of that holds the trunk lock cylinder in place IS the long clip that's held on by 1 screw. If there's another piece, someone let me know about it!!!
As for the clip-they're 24.95 at ground up-I just received the one I ordered for my car.

Autodata Sep 19th, 01, 11:01 AM IF I remember correctly, the retainer clip you're talking about comes with the replacement lock cylinder from NPD? I know you don't need the lock, but it's pretty cheap ($10?). As for the screw-in part.....I can't help you there.
jerryr Sep 19th, 01, 12:05 PM I'm pretty sure when I bought the "kit" last year from Year One, that piece was included.

Mr. D Sep 19th, 01, 9:37 PM I should have one from a 71 montecarlo.
Would that work?
Let me know and I will search for it.
BTW . . . I had done a search for the rear speaker wires for you this last winter. . . I found them but hey had been cut.

Sid Coleman Sep 19th, 01, 9:42 PM Hey guys-I know Tom has first dibs, but please explain something for me.
My understanding of the trunk lock cylinder is that it has the little rod that slips under the spring, that goes to open the trunk. The whole shebang is held in place by a long bracket that has 1 screw holding it in the bottom of the trunklid. If there is another piece required-that's what I need. My car came without a trunk lock (key was a flatblade screwdriver).
Thanks for the info, and if anyone has an extra after Tom get's his-I'd like to be 2nd in line.

JodySirmans Sep 20th, 01, 11:14 AM Sid - Your correct and should need other parts.
The trunk lock has the toothbrush or key rod that slides under the spring and goes into the lock assy. The lock cylinder is held into place with the ONE long clip. Its about 3 inches long with a hole in one end. Push it up under the cylinder and secure in place with the one screw underneath the trunk lid..

DZAUTO Sep 22nd, 01, 12:29 AM Yes, that is exactly the piece I'm talking about. The long clip which goes around the lock cylinder and is retained by one screw. Anyone have an old one that they don't need.
