: oil filter sending unit?

I just installed my z-bar in my 65 chevelle(please read my other post), and I originally had my oil pressure sending unit in a hole by the oil filter. Of course now it wont fit there, since the z-bar is in the way (sheared off a brass adapter figuring this out). I was wondering where else on the block (1978 454) I could install the sending unit. The sending unit uses a 1/8" thread, but I am guessing I will have to use a brass fitting adapter like I did on the other side

thanks for your help,

Joe

I have a small block, so it might be different, but I put my sending unit in the hole in the block right behind the back of the intake manifold

I guess now I realize that the big block z-bar is bent for clearance of the oil filter adapter. Is the hole above the oil filter the best spot for the sending unit, or will it work fine in another location?? I really would like to not put it back by the z-bar, since it is really hard to manuever in there

thanks
Joe

There is an oil gallery that runs along the left side oil pan rail with a number of plugs in it. Any of these can be used. Later BB powered Chevy pick-ups use the front-most of these for the oil pressure sending unit.

I just ran across this same problem in my 66 with 402. I used the plug in the very front lower right next to timing cover.I still had to use an adapter although it's not as big as the rear hole adapter.I used copper hardline,(recommended) and ran it back all the way to the gauge under dash. Worked great!
