From the info I have from chevrolet, the only color stripe you could get with a cranberry red chevelle with no vinyl roof was black, but yet I see cars with white stripes, could these have come from the factory that way?

You could get both black and white stripes on a red 70 Chevelle SS.Black and white were the only factory stripe colors available in 70-72.
