i am in the process of buying a chevelle. i am told this car has a tawanda 454 can anyone explain what this is. i have never heard of a tawanda. thanks

What I believe you are talking about would be Tonawanda. Tonawanda was an engine plant. You'll notice on some big block engines, the little foil decal designating the Tonawanda plant. It was placed on the right hand valve cover. Just a name of the engine plant, that's all http://www.chevelles.com/forum/smile.gif

That is what the T stands for on the pad behind the Alternator.As in T0515CTX.
Romulus Michigan also built some of these B/B engines too.

Wow Rick, is that true? I thoought all big blocks were built at Tonawanda?

Tonawanda,Romulus,and Flint plants built engines.Tonawanda is the most popular that we here of.

They built some small blocks as well!

They put a decal on the valve cover that said, Tonawanda No. 1 Team

Tonawanda, New York Still building engines there.

so did tonawanda or whatever build 454 ls-6's or what are they still gm moters. i am a real moron at this so thanks for the help
