: Distributor Shaft Endplay

I posted this in Tech 2001 but no replies yet. What should the endplay be on a stock Chevy HEI distributor? If endplay is too high, ignition timing can move around too much, right? Endplay on mine is around .080, sure seems like a lot.

I'd be looking for around .015. Use distributor shims P/N 1837617.

My bag (of shims) is old and wrinkly, that is the "best guess" of the part number. I guess I'll have to try to buy more to verify the number!
