Hi i pulled my 396 out of my 69 chevelle almost a year ago. When I put it in I tried to crank it over from the key. You know how on the steering column the key can go from accesory to off to on then to the spring action start, right? Well since I put the engine in it tries to start from the on position not the start. I know that there is a rod around the middle of the steering column that activates the ignition. Ive allready moved it all around and played with that, so I think its internal within the column. Can anyone explain?

Thanks,

Could it be that you have the wire that should be on thr "R" terminal on the starter solenoid connected to the "S" terminal instead ?
