: Mark VIII-'95 Windstar- my alternator

Hi folks..
I read through every post on the mark VIII and windstar fans, and for a while I've wanted an electric fan, and I think these are a good choice. I know an electrical engineer pretty well, and he is willing to help (do!) the wiring.
Anyway, I have a '70 SS 454 auto/ps/th400/12 bolt-3.90's, stereo, street oriented, alum heads, hyd. roller, alum intake, new copper-brass 4 core etc. It runs about 210 all the time, *except* when I brake torque and the temp shoots to 230's. And I swear the damn clutch fan never turns off.
I am installing a 6 pt cage, tranny/oil cooler, and an electric fan this summer.
My question is this.. given my setup, aside from looks, is there any difference between the performance of the mark VIII and the '95 windstar fans, (although I tend to think the windstar units look better). Do they both draw 38 amps?
Second, I can't figure out if I'll need a new alternator. I had the external regulated original-style remanufacutred one replaced because my fusible link kept blowing, and now its fine.
It was replaced with an internally regulated one. The part number is so worn down I can't seem to figure it out, to see what was put on the car..
Does this look familiar to anyone?
V021-12VNEG (first line)
and something to the tune of this:
1102782181A
or 11D27A?61A
It looks something very much like that. My records nor the auto electric shops that did the work have the record. I'd like to know if I will actually need to replace it before I go out and buy the electric fan and accompanying acessories, so I'll know how much I am going to spend in the end..

Thanks alot everyone!

Can't seem to find a book to help you guess at the part number. It's a 7 digit number without letters. The last 2 digits in front of the last "A" is the amp rating of the alternator.
Since the car is presently running, it doesn't sound like you have to hurry up and get this done. If it was me, I'd find a known high output one from the boneyard. One that you can read the digits on. Take it to a local rebuilder and have him go through it. You really want something close to 100 amps.

Alt. from 85 Caprice is rated at 120amp. They are SI style and come with V-pulley.
