Are the lamps on your instrument panel working? They are on the same circuit. If the panel lamps are working then you have power to the circuit but may have a broken wire to the tail lamps.

Check the connections under the dash where the flat rearward wiring harness (goes under the driver's side carpet) plugs into the underdash wiring harness. Sometimes those connections become corroded or loose. Make sure the flat male connectors are clean and the female connectors are not bent out of shape.

Also check the tail light socket contacts. Make sure the metal tangs on the sockets are clean and make sure the holes where the plug into (ground to) are clean.

I just went through this on my '67, but my dash lights were not working.
