Anyone have a source for a reliable and proven relay to use for my electric fan setup.

I need 50+ amp capability for a 25 to 28 amp Continuos Duty load. I have been using Chrysler starter relays but have had 3 fail in 3 years including two nights ago entering the 4th round of racing. Good thing I have the spare all ready wired and switched so it was a simple wire swap that took 1 minute.

But I want something better.

Maybe try a search on the internet.

Here's one example from Ebay. You won't beat the buy it now price;

Or, another option is a solid-state relay, $73 from Digikey and no moving parts to wear out. Here's the datasheet;

Potter & Brumfield has some other relays that get up to 150 or 200A or so so they can probably handle your needs. Look at the website at http://www.tycoelectronics.com/

On second thought, maybe I should be checking if he's got more for sale :eek:

Hope they work for you.

What about using a "Ford" style starter solenoid?? They'll handle the pull of a starter motor, and the windings should handle continuous duty. Plus they're only about $10.

(ask me how I know)

I imagine you are talking about continuous duty solenoids used on campers and such with duel batteries, right?

If you need wire terminals and relay base/socket. Refer to this (http://www.chevelles.com/forum/ultimatebb.php?ubb=get_topic;f=22;t=004582) post on the 70 Amp relay.
