Got a 1967 Chevelle (454) - had like 10 flip switches to various electrical things under dash, trying to get back to normal, stripped it down to necessities. Few Probs: 1.) When I connect the heater controls (or cig lighter), the battery gets warm/hot and freaks me out. 2.) With battery charged good, I start/warm it up/rev it good anfdPOW it cuts off and my recently charged battery is dead! 3.) How do I tell if my alternator is suitable amp size for this thing.

The battery shouldn’t get warm just by running the cigarette lighter, nor should it die just running the car for a short time. Unless the car has had some high power electrical items added to it, the stock alternator should work. Sounds like a bad battery.

Thanks for your advice. I replaced alternator (it did test bad) and recharged battery, plus striped out and cleaned up a lot of wiring. Running OK now!
