Have been wrestling with this problem for a few weeks perhaps simply fixed by someone with knowledge.
71 Chevelle with key in off position "Gen" light stays on. If is disconnect Negative at Batt, then reconnect I can hear the relays click implying power to the circuit.
Unclear of what is causing this to occur.
Other details:
New engine, front light and dash harnesses.
350 V8
Thoughts anyone ??
Thanks

1, Remove the plug from the regulator.
2, Turn the ignition key to the ON position.
3, Measure the regulator connector brown wire to a good ground.
You should have around 12 volts.
4, Switch the key to OFF.
5, Measure the brown wire again to ground. What do you read?

John,
I disconnected the plug (blue/white wires) at the Alternator. Measured the voltage across the brown wire at the Voltage Regulator, Voltage read as follows:
Key On 12V
Key Off 0V
Also noticed when I disconnected the Alternator the power went off with Key in Off position.
Does this imply Alternator is bad ?
Thanks

Your alternator is toast! Had this happen to my last alternator...that broke the straw for my DN external alternator...upgraded to an SI. Not sure what went wrong, but I suspect a fialed diode-trio. You might be able to rebuild if you know how, but I would upgrade to an SI alternator...you will definitely be happier.

After performing that test I had a feeling the Alternator is the problem. About two months ago when hooking up the battery we crossed the poles, probably fried the Diode trio at that time.
Appreciate the input, SI will definetly look into it.
Thanks
