I need to replace my speedo, round gage, in my El Camino 78 SS..It reads to 80 mph. I have a 1981 speedo that goes to 85 mph. and it has elect. wires coming out the back as my 78 gauge does not. I have hooked the 81 gauge up to my cruise control and took the unit inside the car with me and drove around and it appeared to work fine without hooking these elect. wires up to anything. My question is: What are these wires for and will this 81 speedo work in my 78 with no problems. Thanks very much for any assistance you can give me...

The wires are for the vehicle speed sendor which a 78 doesn't have. It's for cars with computers in them. Permission to cruise is granted! http://www.chevelles.com/forum/smile.gif
