Hi.

First, the picture.

(hopefully this comes out)

This wire is supposed to run through the hole (item 3 in the picture) in the steering wheel adapter (Grant wheel, if it matters).

The spacer (item 1) does not seem to be long enough - it looks to be about half the length it needs to be to make sure the end makes contact. I assume that the other white plastic bit (item 2) is supposed to plug into the hole in the adapter, to hold spacer (1) down to hold the brass end to the contact.

So.. do I need a longer spacer? A shorter steering-wheel-adapter? A new wire? If I need a new wire, where do I get it - Grant, GM, one of the wiring harness companies, or a junkyard?

If the pic doesn't appear properly, it can be found at http://www.chevelles.com/showroom/TempWireSM.jpg

Thanks in advance.
Derek

Item 1 (should have a very small ridge around it), snaps into item 3 making contact with the spring, then item 2 should snap into the silver part as an insulator and the spade type connector you're holding would go the an insulated metal part (normally the horn button), that when grounded, would sound the horn.

Thanks, Dave!

I had a big long response typed out giving a little more info on what's going on, then I realized you'd mentioned a spring. I don't have a spring. That would make perfect sense, that would allow for the gap, would make sure that it all stays together.

I don't suppose that spring is something that would be easily available though, do you happen to know?

Thanks again!

Most of the resto houses show them in a kit, don't know if its available by itself. It reminds me of a large ball point pen spring.

Just to follow up for people who find this in a search - that wire and the spring are GM P/N 474102 and I've been quoted a price of 4.32 for the set. They'll call on Monday when they get them.
