can i get a correct reading from my volt gauge by hooking it up to #1 terminal on my alternator.i have it hooked up to a switched wire that also runs something else and feel i'm not getting correct reading.

I hooked mine up on the accessory junction of the fuse block. It should only read when the key is on.

Ideally I'd want it hooked directly to the alternator's output wire, but I'd have to install another relay so it would be switched by the key. It's not much of a load, but it might drain some of my battery power when I spend a week offshore. I don't want it reading when the key is off.
