I think the mk8 fans can draw over 40amps and most (radio shack, auto supply) relays are only rated for 20 to 30 amps. If you manage to find a big relay, you can get by with one, but make sure you are comfortably above the max draw from the fan. I think most people run straight from the battery and use at least 10ga or bigger wire. Also, I've heard a lot of people run the relay on the ground side of the fan instead of between the battery and fan. I never understood the reason for this, but i'm sure there is one. ------------------ Charles Perrell cperrell@yahoo.com 65 malibu SS Convertible 283 2v powerglide cjlandry Jan 30th, 02, 3:54 AM Shoot me an e-mail if you still need info on the parallel relays. I'll draw a simple diagram for you. I'm a little delirious right now, so I'm not ready to draw. Just got home from offshore. ------------------ My Web Page (http://www.landry-family.com) (updated 1-9-02) "America will endure!" Bosch makes a 45Amp relay that is what I use. It even has screw terminal lugs for bigger gauge wire. I use 10 gauge and have a 40Amp fuse in line, which as never blown. The does pull (current wise) near 35Amps. The fan has 3 terminals. Use the outter two. There is a label on the white plastic piece that denotes + and - . If you can't find info from lack of the serach function, CJlandry has done a good job of keeping track of his install and has pictures of others installs (like mine). good luck and stand back when you turn it on. http://www.chevelles.com/forum/eek.gif ------------------ 71' 3880# with me. All the auto stores around here hand you a book with about 30 pages of relays listed, no amps, just applications. I think Wes said he had a Bosch 75amp but he can't remember the application or PN either. ------------------ Matt Arbenz 72SS Convertible ZZ502 http://members8.clubphoto.com/matt525690/owner-8c80-1.phtml [This message has been edited by GLOCKBENZ (edited 01-31-2002).] [This message has been edited by GLOCKBENZ (edited 01-31-2002).] |
