I have a 65 283 that has been upgraded from points to HEI and single wire alt.my problem is it is not chargin when i disconnect the battery posts it dies i need to know the correct way to wire it up?

You're testing for alternator output by unhooking the battery terminals?

Good way to fry an alternator.

What is the voltage at the alt. output terminal with the engine running and the battery connected?

Did you bypass the restrictor wire, and install a new wire to the fuse block?
