I'm not sure if the '65 I just got is wired correctly. On both my '67's they originally had a resistor power wire coming from the main bulkhead off the fusebox going to the positive side of the coil. On the '65 the power going to the coil comes off a Delco relay mounted on the passenger side of the firewall (looks identical to the horn relay that is mounted on the core support).

Is this the way '65's are? Or why is the coil power coming off a relay?

Is it a relay or a resistor?
I know some early Chevy's used these instead of the resistance wire.

Thomas, the 65 was originally wired the same way as the bomber. Can't say why it was changed. Maybe had some problem. May have hooked up some kind of ignition cut-off or kill switch. May have rigged it up for HEI.

Rod, it definately is a relay that the power is coming from - that is why I specified that this Delco relay looks exactly like the horn relay located on the core support. Who knows, there may have been some kind of alarm and ignition interupt mounted up at some time in the past.

John, there has definately been electrical "work" done on the '65 - I'm still trying to figure out some of the Jack, Mack, and a 6-pack out back electrical. Thanks for confirming that it was originally like my '67's.

If it's really chewed up may just want to go by M & H and pick up a new engine harness.

Ooops! That's what I get for skimming through the board while at wotk I guess, not paying quite enough attention to either! redface.gif
