: Right Rear signal light not working

My 70 chevelle has a small problem in that the right rear signal lamp does not come on, all the other 3 lights blink when hazards are turned on, when signaling to right, front one flashes, left- both frt and back flash, all lights work as far as the parking lights and headlights? Any ideas, took a test light to the fisher body connector, not getting anything there, seems to be something blinking on the long connector on steering column, going up towards the steering wheel, actually 2 wires are flashing there and a couple more are hot, hmmmmmm?

If you don't have a meter, think about getting one. They are cheap and easier to troubleshoot with. Assume you have a good bulb.
Without a meter try this. Remove the light bezel. Turn on the right turn signal. Take a piece of wire and touch the outside base of the bulb near the glass. Touch the other end of the wire to a good ground. If it starts working chances are you have a bad socket.
My guess because you appear to have power at the turn signal connector at the column.
If this does not work, remove the light and use your test meter to go from the socket to frame ground. See if you see a pulsing light on one of the light bulb connections. Just guessing you have a bad socket.

I have a great Fluke VOM, but the weirdest thing is if I put the Fluke leads inside the taillamp socket it reads a pulsing 12.8 volts but if I use a lamp or test light, it will not light it up????? Boy that is a weird one eh? I also thought that perhaps one of the flashers was weak so I changed them both around and no difference, I guess there wouldn't be as it works for the other three lights, a question I have is where does the front split from the back, as near as I could tell it is in the fuse block, but if someone knows for sure, that would be cool, I have the schematic but......it is, shall we say, somewhat vague. Thanks for the ideas and yes the bulbs I have tried are good. and the correct 2 filament/two contact ones.

Pat,
I had a problem very much like yours only with my backup lights, every thing checked out, meter shows 12v, put a bulb in...... nothing, this drove me crazy, why does it show 12v but will not light the bulb?
I discovered the problem was in the fuse holder,a little rusty corosion on the clips would let it show 12v on the meter, but put a load on it by putting a bulb in and nothing, took a little stainless steel brush, cleaned the fuse clips in the block, works like a champ, check it out, might fix your problem too.

Try what I said to do with the wire from the socket to ground with the bulb in or
Measure the ground contact inside the socket to ground with your meter (bulb out).
Yeah, I know where the harness connections are but I don't think it's the problem.

Your description of the VOM reading the voltage, but when a load is applied (the bulb), no lighting occurs means only one thing. There is a high resistance in series with either the ground or the hot line in that circuit. Somewhere in that circuit either corrosion or a loose connection, or both has happened. Cleaning and tightening everything in that circuit should cure the problem.

I got it, it was the long set of terminals that mount on the steering column, one of them seemed to be kind of melted and very corroded and pitted, cleaned up, good to go! thanks all
