: tail light malfunction...

I Drive A Malibu

...out of the blue!
on a '66.
i noticed it in the car first.
i put on the left blinker and the green signal blinks (lights are off).
then i turn on the headlights...
the taillight works fine, but when i hit the brake, the left just totally goes out.
when i turn on the left turn signal (when the headlights are on), the green signal on the dash just lights up and stays lit, but the left tail light just goes out again.

im sure that made no sense, but give it a try. i need some help and im not afraid of a Not-Grounded-Correctly type of embarassment.

thanks fellas.

Sounds like the ground in the left rear signal/brake bulb since that sounds common. Try turning on the headlights and hitting the brake…Left brake light goes out correct?
Remove the brake light from the socket with the bulb still in it. Touch a piece of wire to the metal bulb base, right where it meets the glass. Touch the other end to a clean frame ground. See if giving the bulb another ground makes it work. If it does, bad bulb ground or bad socket.
