I just installed a battery disconnect switch and battery in the trunk of my car. If the car is running this switch will not kill the motor when it is activated. NHRA says It must. A friend told me the reason it doesn't kill my motor is because the alternator is supplying current to the dist. Does anyone know how to fix this problem. thanx. wnk.

Have the power wire for the Distributer come from somewhere between the Switch and the Battery.

Seems like a lot of wiring to me, but that will solve your problem.

Unless you have hot spots, run rich, and your car diesels. :D My car would run for up to 30 seconds back in those days. graemlins/sad.gif

Not sure about your configuration, my 67 has a 12 ga wire off the batt pos cable which supplies main power to the fusebox/ ign sw. etc. putting the switch in that will shut down power to everything and I think should pass tech

My 69 vette had a wire which served the same purpose that came off the starter sol "bat" post.

Mine has a wire from the hot batt to the batt alt
which does the job.A speed shop done mine and Im not so sure it's the right way to do this.

Mine has a wire from the hot batt to the batt alt which does the job. I was told that is the easiest way.
I have to do the same this week!!!

The alt must be wired up before the switch, or else car will stay running.

The easist way is to run the alt wire all the way back and hook it up to the Battery side of the switch. Then hook up another wire at the back of the starter, off the battery cable, to power your horn relay, or tie it into the old alt wire. I would use at least 8 gauge wire.
