I have a '66 malibu that has lost its horn. The relay is good and I get noise when I ground the black wire. It doesn't blow when I hit the button. Any and all help would be appreciated. Thanks, Big John

Sounds like the black wire is not connected to the horn contact in the column or broken somewhere between where you are grounding it and the column

I would first look and see if maybe the wire has come unplugged somewhere and then see if grounding it at the horn button makes it honk

I had a similar problem with my '65. My problem turned out to be the round shaped metal waffer contact piece which is supposed to pop in and touch the horn contact when you press on the center of the steering wheel.

I took off the snap on steering wheel hub and then took out the three screws that hold the chrome steering wheel center piece. After taking that piece off, you find a metal waffer piece which is supposed to touch the horn contact and make the horn sound. With my car, that piece was not making contact with the horn contact. I dimpled the waffer piece with a ball peen hammer so that it would make contact.

Hope this makes sense (not sure).

Dean and Tedixon, thanks for the quick response. That will give me a place to start. John

You should also check the horn contact. There is a small spring loaded brass contact which sticks up through a hole in the steering wheel. The round metal waffer is supposed to touch this contact to make the horn sound. On my car, the spring loaded contact gets stuck and does not stick up high enough to touch the round metal waffer. I'm still in the process of trying to figure out how to unstick that brass contact.

Hope this makes sense (not sure).
