: New Wiring Harness - WOW

Just purchased a new engine and headlight harness for the front of my 70 small block automatic w/o AC. I was going to try to recondition the one that I had but there were so many splices and missing connectors that I figured I would be much better off when I try to fire her up if it was all new.

Thought that pictures a diagram and the old harness would be enough for me to put the new one in but I still got stuck. Mostly because the old harness wa missing so much.

Any help on these questions, would be greatly appreciated:

1. Do the large red and the fusable link go to the same post on the horn relay?
2. What is the ground point for the black wires at the headlight sockets?
3. Where does the L shaped male connector, green wires with high temp cover go on the drivers side?
4. Also have another with the same green wires but female right next to it.
5. The two wires at the washer pump, one yellow and one blue/yellow are traditionaly keyed by the connector. I have an atermarket washer pump which is not. Which wire goes on which post.
6. What is the black with pink strip wire by the solenoid wires?
7. Several connectors on the passenger sidw
before the heater blower. Blue and green, pink and black, green, and also a blue and black.
My guess is TCS and Transmission related but not sure.

Thanks in advance

"1. Do the large red and the fusible link go to the same post on the horn relay?"

There should be a fusible link from the battery + to a junction block on the radiator support, right next to the battery. A 10 Ga. red wire attaches to the J block and to the horn relay. A correct copy of a forward lamp harness will not have a fusible link attached to the horn relay.

"2. What is the ground point for the black wires at the headlight sockets?"

On the left side (drivers side) the two black ground wires are under one of the three screws holding the voltage regulator. The far left single screw. On the right side there's a screw immediately in front of the battery, about three inches to the right of the j-block.

"3. Where does the L shaped male connector, green wires with high temp cover go on the drivers side?"

This depends on whether you have the gauge option or not. Without the gauge option this connector goes to the temp switch. the correct switch will have two switches in one. One is for the temp light the other is for the TCS circuit. If you have the gauge option I can provide the info for wiring the temp sender and the temp switch on the right side of the engine.

"4. Also have another with the same green wires but female right next to it."

This is part of the TCS circuit. There should be a male connector that is part of the engine harness that will connect to it. I think the green form 7.

"5. The two wires at the washer pump, one yellow and one blue/yellow are traditionally keyed by the connector. I have an aftermarket washer pump which is not. Which wire goes on which post."

Can't say for sure as I'm not familiar with the aftermarket pump. My guess is that if connected backwards it will not pump if so reverse the connections.

"6. What is the black with pink strip wire by the solenoid wires?"

I think this one connects to the TCS relay along with the Blue and green mentioned in 7.

"7. Several connectors on the passenger side
before the heater blower. Blue and green, pink and black, green, and also a blue and black."

This is all part of the TCS. You have a black wire that connects to a switch on the trans. The blue and black connect to the TCS solenoid. and the pink wire I think is for an idle stop solenoid. I didn't use any of this on my ElCamono so I'm not positive. If you intend on using the TCS, I will try to get better information.

Thanks for taking the time to straighten this out for me, Elree!

Hey, I'm in the same situation. My car has guages and the nailhead sender on the drivers side, but the harness has a O connector on it. Do I just need to put a new connector on the green wire and attach it to the sender and I'm done?

Yes! Just replace the ring terminal with a factory type terminal. Napa part #C784431.
