Hey John,
What do you think of this set-up for a late model EFI vehicle?

Actually it works sort of OK. This system was produced by at least one company. The company's name was Ultraguard. I don't know if they are still around. They produced two different models. For the points style car, it would open the pink ignition line under the dash. Their other model was for an HEI car which somehow would ground a module wire.
Both systems worked on the swipe of a magnet to deactivate them. Otherwise, the minute you turned the car on they were active.
A couple of things Ultraguard used differently that the circuit shown were:
1, Ultraguard would allow the car to start. Unlike a fancy kill switch, their system didn't want a thief to figure out the car had a kill switch. The principle was for the thief not to pop the hood in some place like a parking stall. They incorporated a 45 second time delay. Enough time for the car to "break down" in the street, where attention would be drawn to the thief.
2, Ultraguard reversed how the LED is used. It is not lit when the car is off. It lights after you swipe the magnet. Again the idea was not to advertise the alarm system and have a thief look for it.
3, The system shown requires the magnet to be used. It doesn't have a "secret" way to by-pass it. This is not practical if you have to leave the car with someone.
The flaw in the system shown is the reed switch. It's possible to bounce the car enough (sometimes) to get the reed contacts to release. The coil should hold them together but sometimes it doesn't do a great job.

Just my opinion
This looks like a fancy kill switch with a flashing LED light.

John,
Thanks for your input! http://www.chevelles.com/forum/smile.gif
I'm looking for something to disable the Jeep when I don't have the top on. The hardtop will tend to keep the wolves at bay under normal circumstances. I'm a firm believer of "it keeps an honest man, honest".
But, I'd like to set something up for when it's left unattended sans top.
Thanks for the help!
