my cluster lights that are supposed to come on and light up my speedometer when i switch on my headlights won't turn on. I checked the bulbs they were ok. I am getting no power to the bulbs. I don't know where to begin. I have already checked my fuses but that is as far as i can go. I have a grey and a black wire going to the first bulb. that bulb is supposed to feed the others. also it's a seventy two malibu.

Is this a non-gage or sweep dash car? Check both sides of the fuse clips of the short fuse, middle bottom of the fuse block to ground. A lot of problems occur because of dirty fuse clips.

here is some more information. I hooked up a wire to a 12 volt source and ran it to the first bulb of the cluster. the light came on so I know the cluster has a good ground. However I dont know why it is not getting the power when i flip on the headlights. I would just trace the wire but the guy that owned the car before me turned the dash harness into a cluster F#$&! So what should I do now?

oops, I responded in engine section. Turn the knob to dim/brighten, if that doesn't work, then you might need a new switch.

I have a brand new switch from checker. I'm sure it's ok. plus I just found that i have no power to the fuse. How do I trace this back?
