Have read much on this conversion (points to HEI)both on TC site and from other sources, but need a bit more help. The car is a 69 Malibu. I know I should connect the "BAT" terminal on the new HEI coil to the bulkhead connector or possibly to the ign. fuse on the fuse block. I haven't found an exact description of the wire colors on my bulkhead, even in the shop manual, so not sure what wire is what there.
On what I am calling the bulkhead connector (mounted on firewall, pass. side, next to vacuum canister and distributor), there are two connector terminals. One terminal receives a single dark red wire. The other terminal receives a connector with 3 wires: 1. one orange, larger gauge than others with in-line fuse, 2. one is purple, and 3. one is blue. From what I can piece together to this point, the large orange wire with fuse is the ignition circuit and that's what I would tie into the BAT wire from the new HEI coil. Is this right? If so, connect to which side of the fuse? Is it better to run a wire to the fuse block itself, and if so, to which side of that fuse? If you read all this, I owe you big time, many thanks.
