View Full Version : generator light stays on..and on... and on, whats with it? dan65 Nov 24th, 04, 6:12 PM if the alternator is still giving a good charge, and the fan belt it not loose, why does the light stay on? LXS Nov 24th, 04, 9:03 PM Sounds like you need to replace your voltage regulator. Change that and your problem will be solved! ;) graemlins/thumbsup.gif Grape Ape Nov 24th, 04, 9:49 PM I had a similar issue on a 69 Olds 442 I used to own (pre chevelle). I changed alt, volt reg and still the light kept coming on intermitantly. Turns out I had a short in the wire going to the light itself. Try the volt reg first...if that does not do it check the wire. This should be in electrical forum. check out this topic, shows how test your voltage regulator. http://www.chevelles.com/forum/ultimatebb.php/topic/22/5045.html Dean Nov 25th, 04, 12:01 AM If you're not having a problem with the battery going down a new voltage regulator probably won't help the light go out but I suppose it's worth a try. Grandson's nova has had the light on for a few years and everything else has always worked fine. Moving thread to electrical & wiring forum. david_396 Nov 25th, 04, 12:21 AM On my '67 had a DIM alt. lamp. thought it was the regulator. changed it, light still was on dimly. Found I had a blown fuse, can't remember which on though. Schurkey Nov 25th, 04, 12:43 AM Generator light on dimly is usually the diode trio. If the light is on--there's something wrong. Period. Could be a bad alternator/regulator, or a grounded wire to the field connector. |
