I have attached the left hand side of the underhood wiring harness - the one that goes to the starter/wiper motor etc.

I tried the key - and nothing happened...
Must I have the right hand side of the wiring harness that goes to the alternator/lights hooked up before the starter will turn over the engine?

This is for a 69 chevelle conv with no guages. :confused:

Yep, best to have it all hooked up and grounded well before making things 'hot'.

I belive on the 69 that the power feed goes across the rad support then through the light harness to the firewall connector. The starter wire goes from the firewall through the engine harness to the starter. So, you need to have both harnesses plugged in. If it's like this you'll find a smaller power wire coming off the battery +ve terminal and going to a terminal block by the battery.
