I'm freshening up my alternator. What lube should I use on the bearings?
Thanks!
Mike

I've always used GM's Distributor Cam Lube. Use very little when applying. You might call the nearest rebuild shop and ask. Jon

Some of 'em have a sintered bronze bushing for the rear cover, with a sponge material behind. Usually a dozen drops of motor oil into the sponge, and some on the bushing. The bronze will actually soak up and hold oil.

All of the alternators (but not generators) that I have seen use a drawn cup roller bearing in the rear position. So, a good grease for roller bearings would be in order. I have found that Mobil 1 grease works very well in the roller bearings on the front wheels, so I suspect that it would work well in your alternator. Probably any good grease would be OK, too.

I second the Dist lube.
