Whats a reasonable price for a 1970 small block (350)replace unit water pump. My problems with power steering was caused by a leaking water pump spraying water allover.

prices will vary. remeber you get what you pay for. I like to buy new, lifetime warranteed water pumps. They are a little more than the rebuilts and I have had good luck with them. i get them at Carquest.

One thing to watch out for. Some of the new pumps are made for later model engines and the power steering pump mounting is a little different. Have to make it work or may be better to get a rebuilt and not have the hassle. tom

Panu, USD 36.95 for a remanufactured 2 yr warranty ( plus a usd 5.00 core charge) at the local Carquest. I'll guess the new are USD 55-60. Phil?

Pannu, the price for a brand new GM pump is about $100 USD. You can get nice aftermarket units from Summit http://www.summitracing.com/index.htm That may be your simplest way to go since they are a mail order company. The units range from $60 to $120 for a nice aluminum Edelbrock or Weiand unit. Stay away from the short pumps for the older motors, the spacers can be a pain, go for pure bolt on.

Thanks guys for the input. To answer some of your questions about Finland and Chevelles: There are less than ten 1970 Chevelles in Finland currently, plenty of ElCamino's though because of a kinky tax brake for pickups in the early 70's. (Actually I saw a matching number '70 SS Elky with an asking price of about $5000)

I've imported a ton of parts for my frame off resto (with the help of a good friend in Georgia). You can get some mechanical parts (sometimes even very weird parts) for engines, drive train, brakes etc. There are a lot of American cars running here so general parts are needed.

I just picked up a rebuilt (American made) (6 month warranty) water pump and paid about $65 for it. You be the judge but thats not pad as it was including sales tax (a nice 22% for us)

Finnish sales tax is 22%, ok, but that is just a one tax... OK, a bit of guesstimation based on general skandinavian socialism/communism.. Gas might be like $4 per gallon, car tax 100%+++, income tax 50%++

Vortech is correct. Alcohol is very heavily taxed and it has made bootlegging very profitable once again. Also home made moonshine is not uncommon (illegal naturally). Brewing beer and wine is legal and also fairly common.

The taxes and social benefits are enormous making work unmotivating and unprofitable, however not as bad as Sweden.

Driving my Chevelle (350 4bbl &TH350) has made the gas price extremely painful!!! Just over $4 a gallon and going up.

So live fast, die young, don't have to pay taxes for long!

Their not exempt anymore. There is a lower 30 % tax for those cars, but if you change more than 50% of the parts (don't ask me) you are rewarded with a full new car tax.....

As for engine swaps I'm not sure but I know that certain modifications have been allowed even if they are not "stock". But as you say the paperwork is complicated to say the least.
