: Converting from column shift to floor shift

Is it possible to modify a steering column that was originally set up for a column shift to be a floor shift column by just taking the parts out of it? I realize you would still have the whole where the shifter arm exited the column. As you've geussed at this point I have a column shift that's going in a floor shift car.

Depending on the year, I don't think you even have to remove the internals...

You can cut off the bump where the shifter attached, and either weld a piece in, or try to Bondo it closed...

Maybe some of the later Chevelles might have a problem with the ignition switch, as I think there is linkage that will not allow the key to turn unless in a certain gear (Park, Neutral for and Auto, maybe Reverse for a stick?)...

It's a 66 column. So no ignition problems.
