I'm swapping a 454 into a 67 283 car with power steering. Are the frame mounts the same for a small block as a big block? Also, is the steering in the same position? There dosen't seem to be enough clearance for the headers on the drivers side. I know on 67-69 Camaro/Nova big blocks the drivers side is taller. Thanks, Rick

I have a 67 Malibu w/ a 454 and the steering thing sits right next to the header, sometimes rubbing. I'd guess that you could just dent the header to make room. It doesn't bother me though.
p.s. I didn't put the engine in myself, I bought it like that.

Rick,
I strongly suggest you read tech ref #10 on Team Chevelle's Tech Reference. Bob Tiley's article provides invaluable information on what all is involved withthis swap.

Rick, I have basically the same questions, for a BB swap into my 64 El Camino. I've heard that you can use the small block mounts, but you'll lose distributor clearance. Also, with a 400 or 700r4, a new trans crossmember looks to be in order, as there is about 7" difference from front of bellhousing to trans mount holes in tailshaft. I haven't mocked up my combo yet, but, I've heard that the big block frame mounts give make the swap easier. I'm looking for input from both sides, those who've done it with the small block mounts, and those who've done it with the big block mounts, in the 64-67's. The tech article Skip mentioned is done on a 69, where there was no difference between the frame mounts on a 350 or 396. Let me know what you find out, and I'll do the same. Darren
